Lamps or Lanterns from Bible Times

Bible time lamps

I was talking with my Pastor's wife on what we call a "workday". We have a rather unique church, first off no one take a salary there. Secondly, we don't solicit for donations. All of our "need's" are met through tithing. By the grace of God a small windfall of money came to the church and we were able to create a small library out of some wasted space and book donations. It was decided to name the library the Lantern. We ( the pastors wife and I ) thought it would be fitting to try and find a lantern from the era Jesus did his ministry.

After doing some research on the internet I found replica's of lamps or lantern's from that era. They were similar to that of those you would see in Alladins Lamp. They have wick's and an oil you burn which reminded me of this scripture. Matthew 25: 1-13 "The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgin's" how wise virgins took extra lamp oil and when they arose trimmed their lamps. By seeing a picture of the lamps gave me a better understanding of how thing's work back in those days. Imagine going out to wait/look for someone with a rather small flame. That would be different.

OUGHT or Differences

OUGHT

Biblically speaking "ought" is when you at odd's with another person or have a disagreement with someone. A good portion of today's differences are over money and property. I urge you to pray and read the bible about it before you react. In James 1:5 it is written that " If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God...and it will be given to you" Also Proverbs 15:22 "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisors they succeed."

Holding on to differences or a grudge only harm's the person holding on to the difference or grudge. For example I had an issue with a fellow church member, it seemed like I was blamed for everything that went wrong for that person. I was ready to cut back my church schedule so I didn't have to deal with that person. But word got to my Pastor and he was not happy myself or the other party, gave me some scriptures and words of wisdom. He was right I was taking the wrong approach to things. I took a more head on approach to see what would happen. It worked for me but the other person was back at it a couple days later. Prayer is always the best thing in situations like these.

Here are some scriptures that may help you:
1John 4:20-21
Matthew 18:15-17
Mark 11:25
Hebrews 12:14-15
1 Peter 3:8-9
Matthew 18:21-22

Money!

Earlier this week I was attending a brief church/prayer meeting. The individual brought up how they did not believe Money was evil. I guess that depends how you look at and put a play on words. However 1st Timothy 6:9-10 states: But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lust which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Prayer: Dearest Father I pray that this message reaches many people and they watch and control their spending so they do not become a slave to money. I pray this in Jesus name Amen.
